Why ABMs? From novel applications to novel interpretations

Idea & Motivation

In view of the open issues and challenges explicated in Section 1, T3, our third workshop will focus on the significance of the ABM methodology in the field of philosophy of science, where we expect to have both methodological discussions and talks on novel applications of ABMs. To this end, we will address the following questions and issues:

• What is the benefit of employing ABMs to tackle problems in philosophy of science and social epistemology?

• Which philosophical problems and questions could profit from the ABM methodology?

• Proposals for targeted employment of the ABM methodology (e.g., for simulations of episodes from the history of science, for providing science-policy guidelines, etc.)

• Enhancements of existing ABMs

• Reinterpretations of old models for new research questions.
