What can we learn from ABM's?

Idea & Motivation

The epistemology of ABMs has been controversially discussed both in philosophy and natural and social sciences. This workshop will aim to provide a platform where different viewpoints on this topic can be critically examined and discussed. To this end, we will address the following questions:

  • What can we learn from simple, highly-idealized models?
  • Do highly-idealized ABMs explain, and if so, what kind of explanations do they offer?
  • What are ‘minimal models’ (including ‘minimal ABMs’)?
  • What are the respective benefits of the ‘Keep It Simple, Stupid’ (KISS) and ‘Keep It Descriptive, Stupid’ (KIDS) approaches?
