Towards Robust and Validated ABMs

Idea & Motivation

This workshop aims to address the methodological challenges in obtaining robust and empirically valid results from ABMs of science, explicated in Section 1, T2. As mentioned above, while such results are often considered essential for obtaining reliable normative generalizations from ABMs of science, this methodological challenge has received insufficient attention in the scholarly literature. Our workshop aims to fill this gap by addressing the following issues:

• Methods for conducting a sensitivity analysis of ABMs

• Methods for conducting a derivational robustness analysis

• Examples of sensitivity analyses of existing ABMs of science

• Examples of derivational robustness analyses of ABMs of science

• Methods of conducting empirical calibration and validation of ABMs

• Examples of empirical calibration and validation of ABMs of science.
